Hawaii has been on my bucket list since before I can even remember! There has always been something about it I feel drawn toward. Something I felt familiar with, safe with. Even though I'd never been there before, something about it made me know it was home. Kind of feels like I must've lived there in a past life or something? Anyway! This year, I finally went!
I visited the North Shore of Oahu! It was only a very quick trip (5 days!) but it was long enough to fall head-over-heels in love. Everything about Hawaii is just SO picturesque and beautiful! The palm trees casting shadows on the silken sands, the rhythmic tides, the happy-go-lucky vibes, and every single sunrise and sunset is something to behold!
This trip was a very last minute, spur-of-the-moment, spontaneous trip! I was travelling around LA and had met up with Ali Simpson and her dad for a nice chat and lunch and I met a family friend of theirs who grew up there. I voiced some interest in visiting there one day, and he said "Okay, let's go then". So we did! I stayed at his parents' house with him, his wife and a model called Matilda for a few days, then wandered closer to the coast and stayed at a friend-of-a-friend's house.
I will never forget the people I met on that trip. They are some of the kindest, most caring, loving, gracious and generous people I have ever known!
I remember everything about Hawaii so fondly, even the distinct smell of an incoming storm. Electric is ironically the only way to explain it!
And Waimea bay! I LOVE Waimea Bay! I caught up with so many like-minded people there too! @earthyandy who I just adore; Amber Mozo, who is one of my fave photographers! I did a shoot for San Lorenzo Bikinis with the wonderful @samanthaeeyo, tasted the exquisite tropical flavours of @haleiwabowls (truly the best Acai ever!) and mucked around with the raddest bunch of humans ever.
I respect and love Hawaii so much! Even just driving around on the highways, you witness some of the most remarkable scenery and views you will ever experience. I cannot wait to go back and hopefully explore the other islands also, I feel like Kauai is where I truly belong! But if I go there I might just never return!
Happy Birthday Disneyland
Enter a magical kingdom where you can sail with pirates, explore exotic jungles, meet fairytale princesses, dive under the ocean and rocket through the stars—all in the same day! — Disneyland
Disneyland Park opened on July 17th, 1955 and so my visit, my first time ever to Disneyland, coincided with the 60th Birthday celebrations (thank you so much @flightcentreau). And wasn't it amazing — the happiest place on earth was exactly that!
The Disneyland concept originally grew from an idea to build a tourist attraction adjacent to the Walt Disney studios in Burbank. The area available was too small for the scale of entertainment that the man of fantasy himself, Walt Disney, had envisioned and ended up being built at Anaheim. More than 650 million guests have visited Disneyland since it opened.
And now I can count myself as one of those blessed to have visited this world of fantasy, colour, magic, happiness and eternal youthful imagination and wonder!
Mum and I only had one day to experience as much as we could. We took advantage of the premium tickets which let you book in for a ride to avoid queues; it was the best thing ever. We got there early and met up with @mads.rafferty, and began racing from ride to ride, eager to fit in as much as we possibly could.
We met characters (we were lucky enough to meet the beautiful, charismatic Minnie), gorged ourselves on delicious treats, got chatted to for handstanding in front of the Disneyland Kingdom Castle, and strategically placed ourselves in prime places to watch the main parade of the birthday celebration floats carrying the beautiful Disney princesses and dashing Disney Heroes.
Mum had this "big kid smile" on her face and a giggle in her voice all day, despite blisters on her feet (wear comfortable worn-in shoes would be a major piece of advice) and temperatures soaring. I was bubbling with happy energy all day, and tickled pink to wear my Minnie-ears all day.
We would definitely go back to Disneyland (again and again and again), so if you can fit it in, or even better make it the focus of a trip to any of the Disneyland Theme Parks around the globe — DO IT! On my bucket list is visiting each and every one of them sometime in my lifetime; maybe I might see you there.
"To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America, with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world."
— Walter E. Disney, July 17, 1955
